MA Media & Creative Enterprise
Is it for me?
The MA in Media & Creative Enterprise has been created for people working in the creative industries or for graduates from design, media, graphic design, film and animation.
What does it involve?
The course involves high-level practice and theory, including live projects. Understanding of the cultural, economical and technological frameworks of the creative and cultural industries is applied to enhance creative and business opportunities.
In the Postgraduate Certificate phase you gain a critical overview of how media, social and creative enterprises operate. You can evaluate business and investment opportunities and facilitate growth through innovation and creativity.
You learn about technological developments, digitalization, convergence and globalization and look at areas such as wireless and open technology, Hi-Definition and gaming.
In the Postgraduate Diploma phase there is the option of developing a virtual business, working on live briefs or working on a research project.
You will learn what it takes to be a cultural entrepreneur and how to apply your skills such as project management and finance to either a start-up business or to inform management and policy decisions within your organization.
The Masters phase focuses on setting up a company, developing an existing business or introducing enterprise initiatives into your organization.
Will I do placements as part of the course?
For full time students there are opportunities to do placements during the post graduate Diploma phase of the course.
What will I be able to do when I've finished the course?
Upon successfully completing the course you will have a deep understanding of the practical and theoretical frameworks guiding the setting up and running of a successful creative business or social enterprise. You will understand the operation of creative businesses in the region and nationally and have a critical awareness of your own strengths and weaknesses as well as how to identify sources of support to ensure your skills can be kept up to date. You will have explored and developed your own ideas, with support, including the opportunity to create your own start up business if you choose to follow this path. This is a highly flexible course with an emphasis on the personal and professional development of each student.
What are the entry requirements?
A first or second class degree and two references and/or, appropriate professional experience, other qualifications or achievements, as judged by the MA Media & Creative Enterprise team. Applicants are advised to read around the subject of media enterprise. Some good places to start include:
