- Online journalism lecturer to present in two places at once
- 13th Sep 2007
Online journalism lecturer Paul Bradshaw will be presenting two research papers today - in two different places!
At around 10am Paul will be at the Future of Newspapers conference in Cardiff, where he will be presenting his paper on 'Wiki Journalism' as part of a panel on 'user generated content'.
Then, an hour later, in Birmingham, the New Researchers conference will host Paul's presentation on 'Online Journalism Technologies: a Case Study'.
Paul has pre-recorded this session due to his presence in Cardiff.
Paul explains: "The Future of Newspapers conference promises to be very exciting - I was very flattered to have my paper accepted as speakers and guests will be coming from all over the world.
"My paper looks at how wiki technology has been used for journalism, from the LA Times' 'wikitorial' to Wikinews. It assesses some of the potential, but also addresses the weaknesses.
"I actually wrote the first draft as a wiki so that anyone could contribute - and received some very helpful contributions."
Paul's second presentation is about how online journalism technologies are chosen and implemented.
"I conducted a number of interviews with staff who have been involved in a national broadsheet newspaper website, looking at how they built the website originally and developed the online news operation since. It's brought out some very interesting findings about how online news has had to grow in a print environment.
"I hope to expand the study to look at how the same process has taken place in broadcast, magazine, local and online-only news operations."
