Services to Business
Knowledge Transfer Schemes
For those businesses who wish to make use of a Department student or graduate for a longer period Birmingham City University also promotes and arranges KITTS and KTPs.
KITTS (Knowledge Innovation Technology Transfer Schemes):
The aim of KITTS is to match the skills of qualified graduates with the specific needs of West Midlands based small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) by giving graduates the opportunity to put theory into practice through a real work based project in industry. The projects usually last around 10 weeks.
KTPs (Knowledge Transfer Partnerships):
Knowledge Transfer Partnerships involve graduates working on a project identified as central to a company's future commercial development. Knowledge Transfer Partnerships can employ one or more graduates on a KTP, and programmes can last between one and three years. The work of a KTP associate is jointly supervised by both the business and academic staff. Up to 60% of the cost of each Knowledge Transfer Partnership, including the KTP associate's salary and the academic's time are covered by a government grant.
The advantages of these programmes are that they can help a business to develop and grow by accessing the wealth of knowledge and expertise in the Department of Media and Communication.
